Car buyers must be patient to receive the scrapping bonus. The Federal Office has set itself the goal of processing 6,000 applications a day. So far, 75,000 notifications have been issued.
In view of the long waiting times for processing applications for the scrapping premium, the Federal Office asks for patience. “It's a huge effort. You can only ask for patience, we are doing what is humanly possible,”said the spokesman for the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (Bafa), Volker Anders, on Wednesday. So far, the authority in Eschborn near Frankfurt has received more than 1.2 million applications. The Federal Cabinet decided to fund a total of up to two million vehicles with 2500 euros each and to increase the budget for this from 1.5 to 5 billion.
Capacity is being built
For the 470,000 applications using the old, written procedure, the Federal Office has set itself the goal of processing around 6,000 applications a day. 75,000 notifications have already been issued. "We are in the process of building the capacities," said the spokesman. The office initially hired 100 new employees and now plans to fill 30 more positions. A total of around 150 employees would then process the applications. How long the processing of the electronically submitted applications takes is still unclear.
