The number of alcohol-related accidents increases towards the end of the year. Against this background, the Auto Club Europa (ACE) calls for a zero alcohol limit for drivers.
With a view to alcohol-related traffic accidents at the end of the year, the Auto Club Europa (ACE) has again spoken out in favor of a zero alcohol limit for all motorists. The discussion had to be restarted in order to achieve more safety in road traffic, said the ACE on Monday in Stuttgart.
7,000 deaths due to drink-driving
The opinions about an absolute ban on alcohol at the wheel differed widely, but the political decision-makers should follow the clear positions of the German Road Safety Council (DVR) and the German Traffic Guard (DVW), demanded the ACE. In the past ten years, an estimated 7,000 people have died in road traffic accidents caused by alcohol.
This year politicians from the SPD, the Greens and the Left have expressed themselves positively. However, Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) opposed a change to the existing 0.5-alcohol limit. A strict alcohol ban only applies to novice drivers and drivers under the age of 21.
