Every year at Christmas, the Christmas tree is transported. And every year there are some ignorant people on the streets who fail to get the right transport and mail from Flensburg trickles into their homes.
"Be careful on the A61, there is a Christmas tree". It is not uncommon to hear such or similar messages on the traffic radio in the run-up to Christmas. The problem reappears every year: the Christmas tree has to go home from the rest or from the stand in order to enrich Christmas Eve with festive decorations. However, not everyone has the option of using a pick-up with a large loading area or an off-road vehicle with a split tailgate. So what's the safest way to transport a Christmas tree? The ADAC has some advice.

If a small tree is enough, it can be transported in the trunk. To do this, the back seat is turned down, the tree is placed in the car with the trunk first and then lashed with tension belts.
Protect paintwork from scratches
If the tree has to be fixed on the roof, a blanket or bubble wrap should protect the car paint from scratches. The conifers must then be fixed to the roof with the sawed end of the trunk ahead. Ideally, the seller pulls the good piece through a network beforehand. Both prevent the tree from standing too much in the wind, thereby pulling on the fastenings or bending the branches.
Thin rubber expanders should not be used for fastening. In a crash test, a tree fixed in this way flew over the bonnet at 50 km / h in a rear-end collision and became a dangerous projectile. The fir tree can be attached to the roof much better with standard lashing straps. It is best to loop a strap around the trunk and the top of the tree, while a third can stabilize the central position.
Point and threatening 60 euros
By the way: If you don't fix your Christmas tree properly, you can expect a point in Flensburg and a fine of 60 euros. If the tree protrudes more than a meter above the rear of the vehicle, a red flag (a red lamp in the dark) must be attached to it. Failure to comply will result in a fine of 25 euros. (SP-X)
