Tires with low rolling resistance use less gasoline. Motorists recognize such tires by the “Blue Angel” environmental label
Those who have tires with a low rolling resistance can save fuel. The consumer initiative in Berlin points this out. Such tires are marked with the “Blue Angel” environmental label.
Pay attention to high pressure
On its website, the Federal Environment Agency has made a list of measured values available for download for orientation purposes. Incidentally, tires inflated to the highest permissible pressure not only reduce fuel consumption, but also reduce tire wear.
With a vacuum of just 0.2 bar, fuel consumption increases by two percent. With an average annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers, this equates to 24 liters or additional expenses of 30 euros. In addition, there is higher wear. If the air pressure is 0.6 bar too low, the service life of a tire is halved.
With a VW Golf with the smallest series tires you lose around 160 euros per set, according to tire manufacturer Continental. The tire pressure suitable for the vehicle can be found in the fuel filler flap or in the driver's door.
