As the company announced on Friday, production of the second SUV model after the GLA has started in the Chinese production joint venture Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC). the first locally produced GLC off the assembly line. The GLC is the successor to the GLK, which has been built locally at BBAC since 2011.

“Among other things, China is already our largest market for the GLA and GLK. The GLC will undoubtedly continue our SUV success story here, as it clearly outperforms its predecessor,”said Daimler China Board Member Hubertus Troska. "In 2015, for the first time, over 200,000 vehicles will roll off the assembly line at BBAC within one year," added Troska. In Germany, the GLC is produced in the Bremen plant; China is the second production site for the off-road vehicle.
Mercedes wants to have its local production in China expanded from currently around 60 percent "in one or two years" to two thirds. “The fact is: whenever a model has sufficient sales potential, we will aim to produce it locally,” Troska recently said in an + interview with Autogazette.
