The Mazda3 has quite a good name in the golf class. Now the next generation is in the starting blocks. It has also become more economical.
The new Mazda3 will come to Germany in May at prices starting at around 17,000 euros. This was reported from company circles in the run-up to the Bologna Motor Show (December 5th to 14th), where three weeks after the notchback sedan, the five-door hatchback of the compact class model is also premiering.
Two petrol and three diesel
Hardly changed in format, according to the manufacturer, the second generation of the Golf opponent will be available with two petrol and three diesel engines. They produce 77 kW / 105 PS to 136 kW / 185 PS and some of them have become more economical. The most frugal Mazda3 consumes 4.5 liters (CO2 emissions: 119 g / km). The strongest is satisfied with 7.7 liters (183 g / km).
Station wagon still on the wish list
The new equipment options include BiXenon cornering lights and, for the first time in this segment, electronics that keep an eye on the blind spot and traffic behind when changing lanes. The car will also be available in conjunction with the most powerful petrol engine with an automatic start-stop system. While the competition in the compact class relies on a wide range of models, Mazda is initially only planning with three and five-door models. A station wagon is on the wish list, said European boss James Muir. But worldwide the number of items expected for this is too low. Even a sporty model variant in the form of a coupé is currently hardly feasible. After all, there will be a new Mazda3 MPS with around 195 kW / 265 PS later in the year. (dpa / gms)
