Skoda recorded the best May in the company's history. The VW subsidiary from the Czech Republic saw double-digit growth worldwide, and the new Octavia was a particular delight in Western Europe.
Skoda closed the most successful May in the company's history with an increase of 15.2 percent. While 79,100 units were sold worldwide in May of the previous year, 91,200 vehicles could be given to customers in May 2014. "The good May continues the successful course of 2014," says Skoda Sales Director Werner Eichhorn.
Small minus for Skoda in Eastern Europe
Skoda scored particularly well in Western Europe. Here Skoda gained 25.2 percent and increased its market share by 20.4 percent to a total of 3.57 percent with 37,900 sales. In Germany, the strongest single European market, Skoda was able to sell a total of 13,800 units and increased its sales by 26.7 percent as an almost unattainable importer leader.
In Eastern Europe, however, Skoda had to accept a small minus. 10,400 sales are compared to 500 units more from May of last year. China remains the strongest single market. In the Middle Kingdom, 23,200 units were delivered, an increase of 10.8 percent after 21,000 sales in the same month last year.
Skoda with the largest model offensive
The numerous innovations that Skoda brings onto the market should ensure further sales success. The Octavia G-Tec is currently being launched as the first natural gas Octavia, and the Octavia Scout will follow in August.
"Skoda is in the middle of the largest model offensive in the company's history. We are continuing to accelerate and will be introducing a new or completely revised model every six months on average until 2016", Eichhorn continued. (AG / TF)
