Opel has unveiled the new Corsa. The fifth edition of the small car is set to continue the success of the last 32 years.
Opel has withdrawn the camouflage suit from the Corsa. Two months before the public premiere at the Paris Motor Show, the Rüsselsheim company gave the first glimpses of the fifth generation of the small car. "We have received a lot of praise for our Corsa in the past - especially for its appealing appearance and the great use of space with compact dimensions," says Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann. "That was a decisive key to success, which of course we will keep with the new Corsa generation," said the Opel boss.
Opel Corsa sold twelve million times so far
The success is underscored by the almost twelve million four generations of the Corsa sold in Europe, which saw the light of day 32 years ago. The fifth edition, which will go on sale at the end of the year, will, according to Opel, "offer a" completely new driving experience that has never been experienced in this vehicle class. This is why our bestseller comes with numerous new technologies. The fifth generation of the Corsa will be surprise in every way, "continues Neumann.
This should be ensured by particularly efficient 1.0-liter turbo gasoline units as three-cylinder units, as well as the latest generation of low-friction transmissions and a new chassis. In particular, the completely newly developed three-cylinder 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo should continue to have a positive impact on the Rüsselsheim-based engine offensive.
In addition to Euro 6, the balance shaft should set a new standard for three-cylinder engines and reduce noise and vibration. The unit is in the performance levels of 66 kW / 90 PS and 85 kW / 115 PS and is already used in the Adam small car. There is also another petrol engine as a 1.4 Turbo with 74 kW / 100 PS and two naturally aspirated engines. A 1.3 CDTI is available for the diesel engines.
Completely new chassis for the Opel Corsa
The completely new chassis should contribute to the new driving experience, which lowers the vehicle's center of gravity by five millimeters compared to the Corsa D.
Thanks to the new gearbox, the small car manufactured in Eisenach and Zaragoza could also reduce fuel consumption. In addition to the six-speed manual transmission, a six-speed automatic of the latest generation or a completely new automated manual transmission can also be selected.
Price for Opel Corsa has not yet been determined
When it comes to the look of the four-meter-long Corsa E, Opel relies on a new front section with a lower grille and sharp headlights including LED daytime running lights. In the interior, the cockpit and the instruments have been made clearer. Of course, the IntelliLink system that has been available since last year should not be missing.
In addition, there are numerous assistance systems that are very trendyfrom the higher segments move into the new Corsa. In addition to a blind spot warning, the Opel front camera with front collision warning, distance display, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and high beam assistant and for the first time in the Corsa bi-xenon headlights, tire pressure monitoring displays and an automatically steering parking assistant as well as reversing camera and hill start assistant can also be ordered as far as the wallet allows. But Opel has not yet announced anything about prices. (AG / TF)
