The energy-saving lamp is also finding its way into the automotive sector. A whole set can save up to 20 percent energy.

Philips presents the first 12 volt energy saving lamp for cars. The lamps called Ecovision consume up to 20 percent less energy. In addition to saving energy, there is of course also a reduction in consumption and the associated CO2 emissions. «Drivers who replace their common car lamps with EcoVision lamps save up to 14 liters of fuel over the life of a lamp set. In relation to today's fuel prices, this means a fuel saving of around 20 euros. At the same time, up to 36 kilograms less harmful CO2 emissions enter the atmosphere,”says Jürgen Melzer, lighting expert at Philips.

Melzer calculates that the amount saved would correspond to six power plants or the CO2 emissions of 900,000 people if motorists around the world were to use energy-saving lamps.

Special filament construction

In addition, the lamps should guarantee a double service life compared to conventional light sources. Thanks to a special filament construction, the energy-saving lamps would also offer ten percent more light output than comparable standard lamps.

The EcoVision lamps can be used in all European countries as replacement lamps for conventional lamps and can be used without restrictions. The lamps fit most common headlight types and are available now at prices between 10.99 and 17.49 per piece. (AG)
