The positive trend of the year continues: In October, eleven percent fewer people died on German roads than in the same month last year. The statistics also provide positive news in other respects.

In October, significantly fewer people were killed in traffic accidents in Germany than in the same month of the previous year. According to the findings of the Federal Statistical Office, 461 people were killed, eleven percent fewer than in October 2005.

The overall trend is positive

38,500 people were injured in traffic, also a decrease of 3.3 percent compared to the same month last year. The number of accidents has also fallen: 195,400 incidents are 1.8 percent fewer than in October 2005. Accidents involving personal injury fell by 3.6 percent to around 29,800 and accidents involving pure property damage by 1.4 percent to 165,700.

The numbers for the entire period from January to October are also down - albeit not as clearly as in October alone: The number of road traffic accidents recorded by the police in Germany increased slightly by 1.1 percent to 1.83 million compared to the same period in the previous year from. These included 1.55 million accidents with pure property damage (minus 0.4 percent) and 272,300 accidents (minus 4.7 percent) in which at least one person was injured.

Since the beginning of the year, 4,213 people have died in these accidents, that is 352 people or 7.7 percent fewer than in the period from January to October 2005. There was also a decrease, albeit less strongly (minus 4.8 percent to 350,000), in the first ten Months of this year in terms of the number of injuries.
