It is cheaper to travel in natural gas-powered cars than in comparable petrol models. However, there is one major limitation.
Natural gas vehicles are on average 450 euros cheaper per year than cars with petrol in the tank. This is announced by the ADAC after a comparison of 16 current natural gas models. Accordingly, the potential savings with annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers and a holding period of four years are three cents per kilometer compared to a comparable petrol model. Compared to a diesel vehicle, you save 2.5 cents per kilometer and thus 300 euros per year. 13 of the 16 natural gas models tested are the cheaper alternative, even with annual mileages of less than 10,000 kilometers.
But savings can only be made with natural gas vehicles if they are actually always running in pure gas mode. According to ADAC calculations, the Opel Zafira 1.6 CNG enables the greatest savings with 796 euros per year. Just behind is the VW Touran EcoFuel with a saving of 765 euros compared to the petrol model. The smallest savings were with the Fiat Punto Natural Power with only 45 euros. (dpa)
