Opel will launch the most economical Astra of all time in autumn. The compact competitor from the VW Golf is still well equipped under the hood.
Opel combines economical and sporty aspects with the Astra 1.7 CDTI ecoflex, which will be released in autumn. The manufacturer from Rüsselsheim specifies consumption of 3.7 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers and 99 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer. At the same time, the turbodiesel engine has an impressive 96 kW / 130 PS and a maximum torque of 300 Newton meters, which are applied between 2000 and 2500 revolutions per minute.
Four more savings models in the next six months
"The new Opel Astra ecoflex is another milestone on our way to taking a leading role in economical, environmentally friendly vehicles that offer performance and driving pleasure at the same time," says Karl-Friedrich Stracke.
At the same time, the CEO of Opel / Vauxhall announced "four new ecoflex models that will be launched on the market within the next six months". The fleet of economical vehicles will then also be supported by the Opel Ampera electric car coming at the end of the year.
Prices will be announced later
The components included in the package, such as efficient heat management, stop-start technology, braking energy recovery, as well as active aerodynamic components and the reduction in rolling resistance and a new multiple injection system, are responsible for fuel savings of up to 17 percent compared to the 1.7 basic model. In comparison, the optimized compression-ignition engine consumes 0.8 liters less per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 20 grams per kilometer.
In contrast to many of its competitors, the new Astra has a six-speed manual transmission with recommended gearshifts. The GM subsidiary will announce the prices at the market launch. (AG)
