The Seat Mii Ecomotive sets positive accents at the fuel pump. The small car is still not cheap.

He doesn't look cute. The new Seat Mii is indeed a small car, but does not play the "Oh, how cute" card like many a short group. Where its corporate siblings Skoda Citygo and VW up are rather well drawn, the Mii can appear more chic and sporty with a few modified body parts. In the everyday test, the little one was allowed to show what it has to offer besides optics.

Seat Mii with comfortable space

For example, space: Although the automobile dwarf is only 3.56 meters long, it scores with comparatively comfortable space for up to four adults. Even the trunk can still be seen and loaded. In the basic position, the luggage part holds 251 liters, if you fold down the backrest, it is up to 951 liters. Thanks to the tight exterior dimensions, the Mii has the front bumper when looking for a parking space. You are already in small parking spaces where others have to look. Even wide SUV big ships to the right and left of the parking bay do not disturb, as the small Spaniard is only 1.65 meters wide and therefore has no problems with the outdated standards for parking spaces.

The Mii also surprised positively at the gas station. The 55 kW / 75 PS three-cylinder in the Ecomotive variant that we drive was not only smooth-running, but also economical. Thanks to the automatic start-stop system and the brake energy recovery system, we consumed 5.3 liters on average. We missed the factory specifications of 4.2 liters (CO2 emissions: 98 g / km), but at least not too clearly, and we were also fast - within the framework of 75 hp.

Seat Mii Ecomotive swims confidently with you

Of course, you shouldn't expect any acceleration miracles. These take a little longer. You have to plan a good 13 seconds for the standard sprint and the top speed of 172 km / h is not a record. But it is enough not to be a hindrance to traffic on the motorway. You can swim confidently in traffic up to a speed of 140. The Mii acknowledges speeds that go beyond this with a loud engine hum and increased consumption.

The seats are comfortably tightly upholstered and are still comfortable even for long-legged users thanks to a not too short lying surface. The controls are also known from other VW group products, so that handling does not cause any problems. Well, at least almost like this: Why there is only one electric window regulator on the driver's side for this side remains a secret of the cost center. If you want to open the window opposite, you either need a long arm to operate the switch there or a passenger. This problem only affects owners who have ordered the highest level of equipment. The two other lines do not have any electrical support at all, cranks are fitted ex works and there are only vent windows at the rear anyway.

Numerous surcharges for the Seat Mii

Speaking of the style line: at least 11,450 euros are due for the five-door model (surcharge for the three-door model 475 euros) with the 55 kW / 75 PS engine in the Ecomotive variant. The price includes the aforementioned window lifters, chrome-plated inside door handles, a rear seat bench that can be folded down in parts, central locking with radio remote control, as well as power steering and a height-adjustable driver's seat.

The price does not include air conditioning(540 euros) or the portable navigation and entertainment system (350 euros). If you don't like steel wheels, you have to spend another 400 euros on light alloy rims. If it is not a 14 inch but a 15 inch device, 550 euros go to the Seat dealer. The sound system with CD player, MP3 playback function and aux-in connection costs 400 euros. For frostbite, Seat even has seat heating on offer, which is in the price list in connection with electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors for 350 euros. Our test car quickly added up to over the 13,000 euro mark. However, there is no seat belt height adjustment, neither for good words nor for money, and the steering wheel can only be adjusted in depth, but not in height.

Seat Mii with five stars in the EuroNCAP crash test

Sure, you can also be satisfied with the 44 kW / 60 PS three-door basic model, which is available from 8890 euros. However, you have to do without power steering (have fun maneuvering and parking), an entry aid for the back seats (grandma doesn't want to drive anyway) and be satisfied with only manually adjustable exterior mirrors and cranks for the windows. Oh yes: A radio is missing here, as is the technical preparation for it, the rear seat can only be folded down in one piece and the height of the driver's seat cannot be adjusted. After all: The five star rating in the NCAP crash test does not cost any extra.

The Mii is a spacious and economical vehicle and has what it takes to be a parking lot champion. But it is not particularly cheap. (SP-X)
