Volkswagen is converting manipulated diesels by autumn 2017. In Germany alone, 2.6 million vehicles are affected by the conversion campaign.
According to the EU Commission, Volkswagen has promised to remedy the emissions scandal by autumn 2017. A spokesman for the Brussels authority announced on Wednesday evening that the group had promised that by then all manipulated diesel cars should be converted. Most recently, VW said that the retrofitting of the affected vehicles would be completed in 2017.
Affected eleven million cars worldwide
EU consumer protection commissioner Vera Jourova had previously met VW board member Francisco Garcia Sanz. The carmaker has committed to keep its customers and the EU Commission up to date, it said. With the help of software, VW has manipulated the emission levels of around eleven million diesel vehicles worldwide. In Germany alone, around 2.6 million cars are affected.
According to VW information, drivers with a manipulated diesel from the VW Group should all have received a request for the recall by the end of the year. One year after the outbreak of the exhaust gas scandal, the VW group only improved a fraction of the manipulated cars in the workshops. (dpa)
