The VW Touran is the front runner in its segment. According to experts, however, only the more recent Komapktvans are suitable as used vehicles.
The Touran is like some cars from the VW Group: like the Caddy, it is not a pioneer in its class - the body shapes were invented by different manufacturers. But after its start, it quickly took first place in the registration statistics for compact vans. According to experts, the Touran is still only partially recommendable as a used vehicle.
Very young VW Touran with a "number of defects"
For the Touran, 2006 can be seen as the turning point: From this year of construction, the MPV appears in the breakdown statistics of the ADAC significantly less than before. With reference to the first three years of construction in particular, the car club still speaks of a "series of defects" which the manufacturer later largely rectified.
Particularly noticeable are early diesels, according to the ADACare prone to engine damage (1.9 TDI from 2004 and 2005) and defects in the injection system (1.9 TDI from 2003 and 2004). Problems with the throttle valve increased on the 2.0 TDI from 2006. Even after that, the Touran was not completely free of defects, for example, in copies up to 2007, cracked drive shaft sleeves and porous rubber bearings on the wishbones caused problems. At TÜV, the bottom line is that the Touran is a solid car, even though the number of vehicles with significant defects increases significantly from the age of six - due to problems with the rear axle or the drive shafts.
Important facelift for VW Touran
The Touran came on the market in March 2003. In 2006 the van received a facelift, and in 2007 the Cross Touran with off-road optics and more ground clearance was introduced as an additional model variant. The last time there was a major facelift was in 2010. The car received a new front section and modified taillights. Under the hood, VW replaced almost all of the engines.
Depending on the year of construction and version, the petrol engines produce between 75 kW / 102 PS and 125 kW / 170 PS, while the diesels start at 66 kW / 90 PS and also end at 125 kW / 170 PS. The Touran is one of the few cars from Wolfsburg that is also available with a natural gas drive: This 2.0-liter Ecofuel has an output of 80 kW / 109 PS, and a 1.4-liter turbo and 110 kW / 150 PS has been available since 2009.
According to the Schwacke list, a Touran 1.2 TSI Comfortline from 2010 with 77 kW / 105 PS should be available on the used car market for around 15,250 euros (average mileage: 49,700 kilometers). If you are interested in a diesel, you have to plan for 20,850 euros (55,550 kilometers) in the case of an equally old 2.0 TDI DPF DSG with 125 kW / 170 PS. An Ecofuel example with 110 kW / 150 PS from 2009 leads the Schwacke list in the Freestyle version with 15,950 euros (65,500 kilometers). (dpa / tmn)
