VW wants to transfer the commercial vehicle division as quickly as possible to the board member Andreas Renschler, who recently left Daimler. Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche had previously ruled out a quick change.
According to information from the dpa news agency, Volkswagen wants to get the departing Daimler manager Andreas Renschler into the company as soon as possible. Renschler is to look after the interlinking of the group-wide commercial vehicle business, which has been in the hands of the former head of the Swedish VW subsidiary Scania, Leif Östling, since autumn 2012. Östling is 68 years old, Renschler 55. The Daimler manager, who was responsible for the truck business at the Swabians for years, recently left the company as a complete surprise. VW and Daimler do not comment on speculations about an alleged Renschler change.
Daimler boss Zetsche rules out a quick change
Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche ruled out a quick move from the outgoing production boss Renschler to the competition on Thursday. In terms of the drafting of the contract, Renschler will not be working for any competitor “in the foreseeable future”. VW Patriarch and chief controller Ferdinand Piëch had not denied the recruitment efforts and said the "Stuttgarter Zeitung": "I have no comment yet." First of all, the supervisory board has to decide.
According to the dpa information, the time for Renschler's possible entry into the group is currently open. The VW supervisory board will meet for the next meeting at the end of February.
A Daimler spokesman confirmed on Thursday that there was a competition clause in Renschler's contract that forbade him to change for a certain period of time. Such regulations are common; their severity also depends on the competitive pressure in the respective industry. Building cars and producing software, for example, are considered very competitive.
