Volkswagen sold ten million vehicles in one year four years earlier than initially targeted. It is not yet clear whether Toyota will also exceed the magic mark.
In 2014, Volkswagen broke ten million cars sold for the first time. This emerges from the sales figures for the individual brands published by Friday. Driven by the in-house brand Volkswagen Passenger Cars (6.12 million cars), the premium subsidiary Audi (1.74 million) and the Czech brand Skoda (1.04 million), the Wolfsburg-based company exceeded the mark originally targeted for 2018. However, CEO Martin Winterkorn had last promised ten million for this year. Toyota also wanted to crack this magical brand of the car world in 2014.
Seat grows by twelve percent
In addition to the big sellers, brands such as Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Porsche, Seat and the truck manufacturers MAN and Scania also contribute to the record. The commercial vehicle division achieved an increase of two percent with 444,900 sales, the Spanish subsidiary grew by twelve percent in 2014 with 93,129 units sold. The two commercial vehicle sisters have published initial data for the first three quarters. Nevertheless, the bottom line is 10.01 million vehicles.
In the USA, VW was able to stop the long-lasting decline in sales over the past few months. From 2016, SUVs should better meet the needs of American customers and then contribute more to success. (AG / dpa)
