Acquiring a driver's license is expensive. For example, you have to pay more than 2000 euros at the driving school for a car driving license in Munich. It is significantly cheaper in Berlin, as can be seen from a price comparison.

Novice drivers have to dig deep into their pockets to acquire a driver's license. But driving license prices in Germany vary a lot. For example, a car driver's license (class B) has to be paid the least in a city comparison in Berlin with an average of 1202 euros, and most in Munich with 2022 euros. This was determined by the online portal Fahrschulvergleich.de.

Average price is 1445 euros

The nationwide average price is 1445 euros. Of the largest cities, Cologne is just above this (1,479 euros), followed by Hamburg (1,509 euros), Düsseldorf (1,536 euros), Frankfurt am Main (1,604 euros) and Stuttgart (1,765 euros). The portal also found major differences in the prices for motorcycle driving licenses (class A, unrestricted).

Here, too, Berlin is the cheapest among the largest cities in the republic with an average of 1001 euros and Munich is the most expensive at 1593 euros. In Düsseldorf, the motorcycle license for an average of 1017 euros is similarly cheap as in the capital. Cologne (1267 euros) and Hamburg (1272 euros) are in the middle. The driving schools in Frankfurt am Main (1335 euros) and Stuttgart (1482 euros) demand more money. On a nationwide average, the motorcycle license costs 1215 euros.

For the price comparison, Fahrschulvergleich.de took into account the conditions of 1,100 driving schools in 25 German cities. The calculation was based on all standard costs for driver training plus 12 practice drives of 45 minutes each for motorcycle and 24 practice drives for learner car drivers. According to the portal, the major differences in costs are mainly due to the sometimes considerable differences in the price of individual practice drives. (dpa)
