The first pre-series model of the Opel Ampera rolled off the assembly line at the US plant in Warren. The company rated this as a milestone on the way to market launch.
The first Opel Ampera has now rolled off the assembly line in Warren, USA. The pre-series electric car is not (yet) intended for retail, but is used for tests and development work. With such first vehicles, the engineers are improving the controls and control software, among other things. "We are right on schedule to start production for the European market at the end of next year," says Andrew Farah, chief engineer for the Opel Ampera.
Important tests
In addition, there are crash tests in which the safety and stability of the vehicle structure is checked before the market launch. According to the manufacturer, series production for Europe will begin at the end of next year. The Opel Ampera will then be launched in Germany at the same time as the identical Chevrolet Volt. The Ampera has a purely electric range of 60 kilometers, which can be increased by up to 500 kilometers by combining it with an internal combustion engine. (AG / mid)
