At the ADAC Ecotest, a car with a diesel engine received the highest rating for the first time. The Volvo V70 1.6D DRIVe is only the fourth vehicle with five stars.

The Volvo V70 1.6D DRIVe was the first diesel car to receive five stars in the ADAC EcoTest. With a consumption of 4.97 liters per 100 kilometers, the Swedish manufacturer secured the highest rating, which has rarely been awarded so far. So far, only two hybrid cars and the natural gas Passat 1.4 TSI EcoFuel from VW have reached the maximum. "This shows that there is still considerable potential to make conventional drives more environmentally friendly and more economical. It also shows that even larger cars can be very clean and economical," said ADAC Vice President for Technology Thomas Burkhardt.

Over 1000 cars tested

With 131 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer, the V70 displaces the previous front-runner, the Mercedes E 200 CDI BlueEffiency T-model, to second place. The E-Class emits 24.8 grams more CO2 into the air.

With over 1000 examined car models, the ADAC EcoTest is Germany's most comprehensive and meaningful environmental ranking. In seven vehicle classes, it is the only one to evaluate CO2 emissions and pollutant emissions in realistic test cycles. In doing so, the ADAC does not rely on the information provided by the manufacturer, but rather on its own measured values, which are collected according to more stringent standards. In addition to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) approval test, a motorway test and journeys with the air conditioning switched on are also carried out. (AG)
