After Chinese manufacturers have failed in the last few years, particularly because of the safety tests, a new attempt is now being made. BYD plans to introduce an electric car in Europe in the coming year.

The Chinese automobile manufacturer Build Your Dreams (BYD) wants to get in shape for the European market. Its electric cars are expected to enter the market from 2011. Henry Li, General Manager of the BYD Export Trade Division, announced this to the specialist magazine "kfz -betrieb" at the Geneva Motor Show. The e6 electric car is then expected to be offered at an introductory price of 30,000 euros.

Up to 330 kilometers range

The Chinese manufacturer wants to work with partners when entering the European market, and contracts with importers are already in place for Italy and Switzerland. The plans for Germany are still open, but discussions are ongoing with several groups of dealers, explains Li. The e6 electric vehicle currently on display in Geneva (until March 14) is powered by a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery and has a range of up to to 330 kilometers. The maximum speed is 140 km / h. It takes 14 seconds to get from zero to 100 km / h.

The batteries can be charged at home in around ten to 20 hours. The general manager emphasizes that the batteries can even be charged within two hours at special charging stations. Overall, the battery can be charged 2000 to 4000 times. (mid)
