The plans for Porsche's new SUV series "Cajun" require an increase in the workforce. In Leipzig and in the Weissach development center in particular, the company is to be discontinued.

Porsche plans to significantly increase its workforce in the coming years due to new vehicle projects. According to information from the industry magazine “Automotive News Europe”, around 1,800 new jobs will be created by 2018. A Porsche spokesman did not want to comment on the exact numbers. However, he emphasized that the sports car manufacturer would hire employees in view of the new models. Most recently, Porsche employed 13,043 people worldwide.

Aiming to double sales

According to the report, 500 jobs will be created in the production of the next series, the compact off-road vehicle with the project name Cajun. The car is scheduled to go on sale in 2013 and is reportedly built in Leipzig. The final decision on the place of manufacture should be made in March. The works council is also campaigning for the Cayenne's little brother to be produced in Leipzig. At least 500 other employees, primarily engineers, are to be hired according to the information in the Porsche development center in Weissach near Stuttgart.

Porsche needs the new staff, among other things, because the sports car maker is increasing the number of its model series. The model offensive is expected to more than double sales from 97,000 to around 200,000 units in the medium term. (dpa)
