Ford is breaking new ground in the commercial vehicle range. The transit can soon be converted to both natural and liquid gas.
Ford will also be offering the Transit with alternative drive variants in the future. The new generation of the van can now be ordered with natural gas and from October on with liquid gas drive, the Cologne-based manufacturer announced at the International Motor Show (IAA) for commercial vehicles in Hanover. All natural gas versions can also be operated with renewable bio-methane.
Usable areas are retained
A newly developed 2.3-liter petrol engine with 107 kW / 145 PS is used as the engine for the CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) transit and the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) transit. After the conversion, the unit is designed for operation with petrol and the respective type of gas. According to Ford, the surcharge for the natural gas conversion is between 3950 and 4700 euros, depending on the variant. The cost of the LPG conversion was not disclosed.
Depending on the body variant of the van, different tank sizes are available for the natural or liquid gas supply. According to the manufacturer, the tanks can be positioned around the vehicle in such a way that the usable areas of the transit remain unrestricted.
