For young drivers, an absolute alcohol ban is to apply in the future. The Bundestag has revised a draft law again.
For novice drivers under the age of 21, an absolute ban on alcohol at the wheel will apply in the future. This provides for a bill that the Bundestag wanted to pass on Friday night. Originally, the federal government had only intended the 0.0 per mil limit for the two-year probationary period. At the urging of the Federal Council, the alcohol ban was linked to an age limit in addition to the probationary period.
The federal states had feared that otherwise more and more young people would already get a moped driving license at the age of 16 so that they would no longer fall under the alcohol ban at the age of 18 after obtaining their car driving license. That is why the draft law was changed again in the Bundestag Transport Committee.
If novice drivers are caught with alcohol in their blood, they face a fine of at least 125 euros and two points in the Flensburg traffic offenders register. Your trial period will be extended from two to four years. In addition, those affected have to attend an advanced seminar to polish up their driving skills. After the 21st birthday - if the trial period has expired - the general alcohol limit of 0.5 per mille applies. (dpa)
