The Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating at least one member of the Daimler Board of Management. According to a media report, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche should be in the sights of the investigators.

The Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating at least one member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG. There is a suspicion of granting advantages in connection with the investigation against the ex-minister of state in the Chancellery, Eckart von Klaeden (CDU), said the public prosecutor's office, Martin Steltner. Steltner did not want to give names. "Wirtschaftswoche" previously reported online that Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche was the investigators' sights.

Daimler wants to support work

Daimler confirmed the investigation by the Berlin public prosecutor's office and announced that it would support their work. A spokesman emphasized that the company was firmly convinced "that those responsible at Daimler AG acted correctly". The integrity of Eckart von Klaeden is also not in question.

The public prosecutor's office is investigating von Klaeden on suspicion of accepting benefits. He had already announced in May that he would be head of the Politics and External Relations department at Daimler at the end of the year. The opposition demanded that he be dismissed for conflicts of interest. Both Klaeden himself as well as the federal government and Daimler always rejected the criticism. The 47-year-old had been Minister of State in the Chancellery since October 2009 and asked for his release shortly after the general election in September.
