Four years after the model was launched, Porsche is launching a new generation of the Cayenne. Since the off-road vehicles are equipped with more powerful engines, the absolute top version is not available.
Porsche has pimped up the second generation of the Cayenne. Four years after the market launch of the first generation, the Zuffenhausen-based company has strengthened the engines of the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, which will be available in Germany from February 24, 2007. The off-road vehicles are now on the road with direct petrol injection (DFI), which should reduce fuel consumption by more than eight percent. Since the units have been reinforced, the top version Cayenne Turbo S, which the predecessor had to offer with a total of 521 hp, is no longer available, said Porsche press spokesman Cypselus from Frankenberg Autogazette.de.
Up to 50 HP more powerful
Prices for the second generation of the off-road vehicle start at 51,735 euros. The more powerful Cayenne S is on the list for at least 66,610 euros. For the top version Cayenne Turbo, the company charges from 108,617 euros.
The six-cylinder of the basic version, which has been enlarged from 3.2 to 3.6 liters, has an output of 213 kW / 290 hp. That is 29 kW / 40 PS more than in the current generation. The Cayenne thus completes the sprint from zero to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds. The top speed is reached at 227 kilometers per hour (km / h).
The Cayenne S is now powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine that has been enlarged to 4.8 liters. It is listed in the data sheet with 283 kW / 385 PS - that is 33 kW / 45 PS more than before. The sprint to 100 km / h is completed in 6.6 seconds, at 252 km / h the propulsion is over. A twin-turbo eight-cylinder is installed in the top model Cayenne Turbo, which with 368 kW / 500 PS now delivers 37 kW / 50 PS more than before. 100 km / h are reached in 5.1 seconds, and the top speed is 266 km / h.
Redesigned grille
According to Porsche, the new direct injection technology DFI is intended to reduce consumption in individual models by more than eight percent. In real driving operations, savings of up to 15 percent are possible. Power is transmitted with the help of Porsche Traction Management, which distributes the torque variably between the front and rear axles. Stability control with brake assist is also standard on all variants.
The new Cayenne generation can be recognized by its modified headlights and taillights, a newly designed radiator grille and modified side sills.
