The Swedish brand Volvo is responding to ongoing criticism. Since the upper-class models do not score sufficiently, small cars with diesel engines should be more successful in the future.
The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo wants to bring three new diesel models onto the market in the fall and use the relatively small passenger cars to curb the current slump in sales. CEO Fredrik Arp announced on Wednesday, according to a newspaper report, that the company, which belongs to the US group Ford, wanted to focus more on the growth markets of China and Russia with “green cars”.
Sales in the USA collapsed
In the interview, Arp did not comment on persistent rumors about a sale of Volvo by the highly indebted US mother Ford. According to media reports, Renault and the Chinese car manufacturer Dongfeng are among the potential buyers. In June, Volvo announced the cut of 2,000 jobs, especially in Sweden, after sales of the predominantly large passenger cars had collapsed, especially in the USA.
Misjudged demand
