Ford has completed the new Transit family with the fourth derivative. The Courier city delivery van can be used as a small utility vehicle or as a station wagon.

The Ford Transit family has now been completely redesigned. After the large van and the Custom and Connect variants, the Courier city delivery van will be available from dealers from June. The smallest representative of this type of commercial vehicle is based on the Ford Fiesta and measures 4.16 meters in length. As a classic panel van in conjunction with the 74 kW / 100 PS three-cylinder petrol engine, it costs from 11,990 euros (14,268 euros gross), as a five-seater station wagon at least 12,490 euros (14,863 euros gross).

Ford Transit Courier meets manageable demands

The demands on a panel van for inner-city delivery traffic are manageable. Particularly compact external dimensions with large loading capacities count here. The Courier offers both. Although it exceeds its competitors Citroen Nemo, Peugeot Bipper or Fiat Qubo by 20 centimeters in length, it is still agile. The Ford can load 585 kilograms and has a storage volume of 2.3 cubic meters. Normally, objects up to 1.62 meters long fit in the hold.

If, instead of the normal partition, the lattice partition, which can be rotated around the driver's seat, is on board (standard on the second trim level, Trend) and the rear seat backrest of the front passenger seat is folded down and the seat is lowered, backrests up to 2.59 meters in length can be transported. The storage volume increases to 2.4 cubic meters.

Sliding doors for Ford Transit Courier at an additional cost

Speaking of series: If you choose the basic version, you have to forego many useful things or book them as extras. The small box with an asymmetrical double rear wing door without a window drives up from the factory. There are also no windows on the rear side walls.

Side sliding doors are available for a surcharge, with the trend equipment (surcharge 1,500 euros) a side sliding door is part of the scope of delivery. Just like the station wagon, by the way. This variant has a second row of seats, which can be asymmetrically divided in a 60:40 ratio and folded up and down. Here the loading volume is 0.98 cubic meters.

Ford Transit Courier approved as a light commercial vehicle

At Trend, an air conditioning system, an on-board computer, a higher-adjustable driver's seat, a retractable passenger seat, fog lights and an audio system complement the basic equipment that is typical for commercial vehicles. In addition, customers can of course invest in other options, navigation systems are just as much a choice as metallic paints, light alloy wheels or roof rails. There is still some catching up to do on the subject of security.

Since the Courier is approved as a light commercial vehicle, only the driver's airbag is required. An air bag for the front passenger (150 euros net) can be retrofitted, as can a tire pressure monitoring system. Side air cushions are also available for the driver and front passenger airbags in the case of the passenger vehicle approved as a passenger car. After all: the load securing has been thought of. There are six lashing eyes ex-works, four on the station wagon. There are also prepared attachment points so that the load space can also be equipped with shelves or storage systems.

Ford Transit Courier very close to the car

Both box and station wagons are aimed at tradespeople who mostly cover short distances. Ford offers three engines, two diesels and a three-cylinder gasoline engine. The latter is particularly interesting for infrequent drivers. Its average consumption is 5.2 liters. The lively engine with 1.0 liter displacement is known from Fiesta or Focus and has no problems accelerating the Courier quickly. The box drives very much like a car. Compared to the Fiesta gene dispenser, the rear and front axles have been modified for transport tasks, but the chassis is comfortably adjusted.

With a torque of 170 Nm, the three-cylinder has little to hide behind the small 1.5-liter diesel with 55 kW / 75 PS, which mobilizes 190 Nm. The diesel engine costs from 12,790 euros (net). The 1.6-liter diesel with 70 kW / 95 PS probably combines the majority of customer orders. The unit is also the most economical in the Courier range. With 3.8 liters it undercuts the small diesel by 0.1 liters. It is in the list from 13,890 euros (net). (SP-X)
