On Sunday, Volkswagen wants to win the mountain race of the same name with the ID R Pikes Peak. There was already family encouragement for the brand's first all-electric racer.
Before the legendary hill climb on Pikes Peak, the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak received encouragement from the family. With the ID Buzz, the Wolfsburg-based company has brought a 374 hp representative to Colorado Springs for support. The electric successor to the legendary Bullis, the series production of which is scheduled to start in 2022, receives visual instruction from the brand's first all-electric racer.

After winning the qualification on Wednesday, the 680 hp electric car wants to set the best time on Sunday evening (6:00 p.m. CEST). Over 19.9 kilometers, 1,440 meters in altitude and 156 curves have to be overcome.

“Our brand is committed to electromobility and for us taking part in Pikes Peak is an excellent opportunity to bring this idea to life with a racing car before the first Volkswagen series with a purely electric drive comes onto the market in 2020,” says Volkswagen -Motor Sports Director Sven Smeets.
In addition to a win, Smeets also has his sights set on the current best time for electric vehicles of 8: 57.118 minutes from 2016. “Any time under 8:57 minutes would be a success for us. We are very optimistic about the race. But we have to keep reminding ourselves that we only have one attempt. Everything has to fit perfectly, the driver, the car, the weather, everything."

And of course the best time ever set by Frenchman Sebastien Loeb in 2013 is on compatriot Romain Dumas' agenda. The driver of the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak has already won the legendary hill climb three times and is also looking a little at the 8: 13.878 minutes held by Loeb.
To focus on the race, Dumas will only stop by the fan festival in Colorado Springs starting Friday night. Around 30,000 motorsport fans have been meeting since 2002.
