In August, the Volkswagen Group sold more cars than a year before the introduction of new emissions test procedures. For the next two months, however, the Wolfsburg expect a dent.

In the eighth month, the automaker increased deliveries by 6.8 percent to 875,300 vehicles, as VW announced in Wolfsburg on Friday. For September and October, however, the group expects fewer deliveries due to the changeover to the new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) emissions and consumption test standard.

"We are working flat out to make up for the delays in deliveries as quickly as possible," said Group Sales Director Fred Kappler. The new exhaust test bench has been in effect since September 1st. In addition to Europe with an increase of 21 percent compared to the previous month, VW sold more vehicles, especially in Brazil, with an increase of 30 percent. In North America, on the other hand, sales fell by 4.1 percent. VW gave the tense market situation in Mexico as the reason.

Volkswagen Group with 7.3 million sales

In the past eight months, the group hit a total of 7.3 million vehicles. That is 7.5 percent more than in the same period last year. The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand accounted for the largest share with 4.14 million cars sold, followed by the VW subsidiary Audi with around 1.27 million vehicles sold. (dpa)
