Used Toyota Auris: On Par With The Golf

A used Toyota Auris can keep up with the compact class leader VW Golf in terms of quality. The main inspections are completed with above-average quality, only the brake discs are not quite at eye level.

The compact segment is like the proverbial shark tank: the competitors crowd, they fight for survival. Some are doing this very well, for example the VW Golf, which has been the best-selling car model in Germany for decades, while others are less successful. In terms of registration numbers, the Toyota Auris does not come close to the compact from Wolfsburg, but in terms of technology it can hold a candle to it. That is at least the ADAC and refers to its breakdown statistics.

Toyota Auris in the front third

The Toyota Auris, which inherited the Corolla, was a very reliable model right from the start, reports the Munich Automobile Club. "It is roughly on par with the Golf in the front third of the lower middle class." With examples from the early years of construction 2007 and 2008 there were occasional defective immobilizers to complain about, with diesel engines from 2007 problems with the turbochargers. The Auris is one of the Toyota models that were affected by a major recall in 2010 because the accelerator pedal could lock.

In the main vehicle inspection (HU), the Auris comes off well above average. The "TÜV Report 2013" certifies that it has long-term qualities. Only the brake discs are to be chalked to the compact Japanese: they are often worn out even in three-year-old cars.

The Toyota Auris was launched in 2007 as a three- and five-door model. Two years later, the Japanese revised the engine range and offered a start-stop system for the first time. A small facelift had recently brought the car a modified front section with stronger bumpers and a new bonnet as well as changes to the interior. The second generation of the Auris, which is no longer available as a three-door model, but will be available for the first time as a Touring Sports estate from autumn 2013, was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. The limousine has been at dealerships since January of this year, and the station wagon will follow soon.

With regard to the available engines, a special feature is the hybrid drive, which has been available since late summer 2010to be emphasized, which comes to a system output of 100 kW / 136 PS. Depending on the year of construction and design, the petrol engines produce from 71 kW / 97 PS to 97 kW / 132 PS. The diesels develop 66 kW / 90 PS to 130 kW / 177 PS.

According to the Schwacke list, an Auris 1.4 VVT-i with 71 kW / 97 PS from 2007 still costs around 6300 euros - with an average of around 72,000 kilometers on the meter. A younger Auris 1.6 Edition with 97 kW / 132 PS from 2011 is still sold for 12,400 euros (24,000 kilometers). A diesel of the same year of construction should be available in the case of the Auris 2.2 D-4D D-CAT with 130 kW / 177 PS for around 15,350 euros (39,600 kilometers). (dpa / tmn)
