Instead of top-down, Jaguar is going the opposite way. The redesigned XJ has technology from the new XE entry-level model and a new version of the six-cylinder diesel engine.
Around five years after its market launch, the Jaguar XJ is now receiving its first makeover. In addition to a slight visual refresh, there is new technology and revised engines. The market launch will take place in late autumn, with prices starting at 81,000 euros.
Modified six-cylinder diesel with 300 hp
Externally, the new version of the luxury sedan can be recognized primarily by the enlarged radiator grille, which is now flanked by two LED headlights. These are standard and offer cornering and automatic high beam. In the interior, which has also been redesigned, the old infotainment system has been replaced by the new technology from the XE mid-range sedan. It is now possible to integrate the smartphone, including wireless remote control of the air conditioning system, as well as to set up a WiFi hotspot.
A new version of the V6 diesel is available for the drive. The 3.0-liter engine now has 221 kW / 300 PS (previously 202 kW / 275 PS) and should be satisfied with 5.7 liters of fuel (previously 6.1 liters). In addition, a 3.0-liter V6 compressor petrol engine with 250 kW / 340 PS and a 5.0-liter V8 compressor petrol engine with 405 kW / 550 PS complement the range. The rear wheels are driven, only the small gasoline engine has all-wheel drive technology on board.
Two new trim levels for Jaguar XJ
The flagship of the British brand will in future be available in the familiar four plus two new equipment lines. In the “R-Sport” variant, the sedan then moves a bit in the direction of the XJR sports model, while in the “Autobiography” variant, the models with a long wheelbase come up with particularly sophisticated equipment. The prices have risen slightly: At 81,000 euros, the diesel variant now costs almost 700 euros more than before. (SP-X)
