The points system suggested by Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer has no future for now. The Federal Council rejected the envisaged reform of the points.
The planned reform of the Flensburg traffic offenders file has been postponed. The Federal Council lay down and called the mediation committee on Friday. The new regulation is now on hold. It remains to be seen whether a compromise will be reached between the federal government and the federal states before the general election. Red-green ruled countries are urging corrections.
Unsuccessful solicitation for approval
The aim of the law enforced by Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer (CSU) and passed by the Bundestag was to make the point catalog simpler and fairer. Instead of the previous scale of one to seven points, there should only be one, two or three points depending on the severity of the offense. In addition, it was planned to be able to reduce points in the future with voluntary training.
The parliamentary state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Jan Mücke, sought the approval of the regional chamber in vain. The law should not fall victim to the near end of the legislative period. "The points catalog will be cleared out and reduced to what actually serves traffic safety," he said. The ministry largely implemented the federal states' proposals.
The critics from the red-green governed countries, however, complain that only security-related offenses should be stored in the Flensburg file. Rather, what should be retained are "facts that have previously been awarded points and generally serve to comply with the legal system in road traffic". This applies, for example, to entering an environmental zone without a mandatory sticker. (dpa)
