Jaguar-Land Rover brings hybrid drive into the luxury class. The XJ_e plug-in hybrid study is celebrating its premiere at a British hybrid trade fair.
Jaguar-Land Rover heralds the electric future. At the British hybrid trade fair Cenex 2012 on the test site in Millbrook, the company is presenting the XJ_e study, which was funded by the government through the REEVolution project. "Jaguar Land Rover is the UK's largest promoter of green automotive technology. By working with universities, suppliers and other automotive manufacturers, we are helping to shift electrified powertrain development more towards premium and luxury vehicles," said Bob Joyce, Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover.
Jaguar XJ_e with a range of 1,100 kilometers
The luxury class sedan has a system output of 246 kW / 334 PS, the company states that the consumption is 3.2 liters per 100 kilometers, which means the range is around 1100 kilometers. For this purpose, the 2.0 liter direct injection gasoline engine known from the Range Rover Evoque, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission, a 69 kW electric motor / generator and a 12.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack work under the hood 230 volt socket can be charged within four hours.
The plug-in hybrid can cover around 40 kilometers in purely electric mode before the combination of combustion engine and electric motor works together. In contrast to the Limo Green study presented in 2010, the combustion engine does not function as a range extender. The limousine remains dynamic. 100 km / h are reached within 6.5 seconds, the XJ_e can keep up with a speed of up to 250 km / h before it is electronically captured. At these speeds, the specified CO2 emissions of just 75 grams per kilometer cannot be maintained. (AG / TF)
