The publication of the balance sheet figures was repeatedly delayed. Now they are available. The Swedish car manufacturer Saab made a loss of 224 million euros in the first half of the year.

A high loss had been expected, now the sobering figures are available: The threatened Swedish car manufacturer Saab made 224 million euros in losses in the first half of the year. As the Dutch parent company Swedish Automobile announced, the sale of just 13,000 cars brought sales of 359 million euros to the coffers. Saab has so far not been able to pay out the August salaries for the 3,600 employees and has to expect a bankruptcy application by the unions next week. Saab boss Victor Muller should want to apply for bankruptcy protection in this case, should he not be able to pay the outstanding salaries of the employees by then.

Production at Saab continues

After the balance sheet was published, company spokeswoman Gunilla Gustavs said on Thursday morning that Saab had an "extremely unusual half-year" behind it. She declared: "We are doing everything in our power to raise funds for wages and salaries." Restarting production is just as important. At the main plant in Trollhättan, only 1989 cars have rolled off the assembly line since April with almost permanent downtime.

Saab had canceled its participation for the International Motor Show (IAA) starting in mid-September. (AG / dpa)
