A comeback of a modern Mehari has long been in mind for those in charge at Citroen. A first step could be seen at the IAA with the Cactus M Concept.

Without a roof, but with waterproof cushions in the interior, the Citroen study Cactus M will be presented at the IAA. The basis of the beach vehicle is the crossover C4 Cactus, which has been raised a few centimeters for forced leisure use and slightly modified at the front and rear.

Citroen Méhari as a model

A roof is not necessary, as the seats are covered with waterproof neoprene and there are drains in the floor, but it can still be opened. Alternatively, it can be used as a tent. The concept is based on the legendary beach car Citroen Méhari, which the study also cites with the fluted doors and the "M" in the name.

The choice of the C4 Cactus as a base is not entirely by chance. The sturdy planked small car is something like the modern revenant of the 2 CV ("duck"). This in turn served as the basis for the Méhari in the mid-1960s. Recently, Citroen has apparently been thinking about reviving the iconic beach car. The IAA study could be a first foretaste that is still far from production. (SP-X)
