The series production of electric vehicles with fuel cell technology is to be promoted. Leading industrial companies in Berlin agreed on this on Thursday.
Leading industrial companies agreed on Thursday in Berlin, in the presence of Federal Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD), to advance the series production of electric vehicles with fuel cells. The business representatives signed a so-called “Memorandum of Understanding”. The aim is to examine possibilities for building a comprehensive infrastructure for the supply of hydrogen in Germany.
Germany sets the pace
“Today it is clear that Germany is setting the pace when it comes to hydrogen and fuel cell technology. Our goal is to build up a nationwide supply of hydrogen in Germany so that the series introduction of fuel cell vehicles will be possible in 2015,”said Tiefensee in Berlin.
As Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche said, large-scale fuel cells will only be on the road if you can fill up with hydrogen across the board. "For this reason, we are working together with oil companies, energy suppliers and politicians to develop the necessary infrastructure," emphasized the Daimler boss. “In a fuel cell car, only water vapor comes out of the exhaust. That is good for the environment and people - and that is precisely why we want to bring this technology to market maturity as quickly as possible,”says Zetsche. ENBW CEO Hans-Peter Villis said that without a comprehensive infrastructure, “even the most innovative drive technology will have no future”. Linde boss Wolfgang Reitzle emphasizedthat this joint commitment by industry to mobility based on hydrogen would set the course for a low-emission and environmentally friendly future «.
Partners in the "H2 Mobility" initiative are Daimler, EnBW, Linde, OMV, Shell, Total, Vattenfall and the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH). The initiative is open to the participation of other interested companies. (AG / FM)
