After the Golf, VW also equipped the Passat with a plug-in hybrid drive. The Passat GTE can not only be economical but also quite sporty.
The mid-range VW Passat GTE sedan can now be ordered at a base price of 44,250 euros. The station wagon costs 45,250 euros. In both cases, propulsion is provided by a plug-in hybrid with a system output of 160 kW / 219 PS. A 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine with 115 kW / 156 PS is used as the combustion engine, supplemented by an 85 kW / 115 PS electric motor. The manufacturer specifies the electric range at 50 kilometers, the standard consumption is 1.6 liters. Externally, the GTE versions can be recognized by a blue crossbar in the radiator grille.
Surcharge for VW Passat GTE around 6800 euros
After the Golf, the Passat is already the second series in which VW offers a GTE model. The abbreviation identifies the models with plug-in hybrid drives and it is no coincidence that they are reminiscent of the terms GTI or GTD.
Like the two conventional models, the GTE is geared more towards driving fun than the greatest possible economy. The surcharge compared to the comparable Passat variant with a pure gasoline engine (162 kW / 220 PS) is around 6,800 euros. (SP-X)
