At Porsche, the entry-level variant is not just for pure driving pleasure. Even a used Boxster is still a worthwhile investment model today.

When a car manufacturer wants to lure customers with a new entry-level model, it is usually a simply equipped vehicle at an affordable price. Things are a little different at Porsche: When the manufacturer decided to launch a second series below the 911, it became a sports car that was priced below that of the traditional Porsche, but not in the lows of competitors such as a Mercedes SLK lowered. The car called the Boxster was still a success and is still one of the most stable vehicles today - even if the ADAC draws attention to some possible defects.

Defective engines

Despite the proverbial good Porsche quality, problems can occasionally arise with the Boxster too. According to the car club in Munich, the breakdown statistics show, among other things, some defective engines. In addition, there are defective fuel pumps, leaks in the cooling system, defective immobilizers, especially in 1998, and malfunctions in engine management. Cases of discharged batteries are almost typical for modern cars.

The Boxster was launched on the market in 1996. In 1999 there was also the Boxster S as well as more displacement and power. A facelift was made in 2002. In 2004 it was replaced by the second Boxster generation. For both generations, it is a two-seater sports car with a soft top. Prospective customers are offered typical Porsche driving performance, but maintenance and acquisition are quite expensive.

Expensive pleasure

In terms of engine output, the Boxster starts with 150 kW / 204 PS. A Boxster S of the first generation has an output of 185 kW / 252 PS or 191 kW / 260 PS, depending on the year of construction. The second Boxster edition is available with 176 kW / 239 hp to 217 kW / 295 hp.

According to the Schwacke list, 13,700 euros still have to be paid for an early Boxster from 1996. A model from the year 2000 costs around 19,300 euros. A second generation Boxster from 2004 is traded for 30,000 euros. (dpa)
