The Renault Kangoo has been populating the streets for twelve years. While the first models were still fragile, the younger vintages received a good report.
Sliding doors, high body, lots of storage space: the Renault Kangoo has lived up to its claim as a commercial and leisure vehicle since its introduction in 1998. Above all, the newer years of construction among the used copies of the high-roof station wagon are considered to be "quite reliable" according to the ADAC breakdown statistics.
Turbo hoses slipped
The surveys of the automobile club rather expose the first generation of the panel van as vulnerable. Especially up to model year 2000, the breakdown helpers attested that the Kangoo had overheated engines, broken timing belts and malfunctions in the engine management. The electrical system also caused problems: by 2002, defective starters were found. Vehicles from 1998 to 2000 were recalled due to broken control units for the airbag. With early diesels, slipped turbo hoses and defective glow plugs caused difficulties.
As the successor to the Rapid van, the Kangoo came onto the market in 1998 and quickly made friends, not least because of its low maintenance costs: under certain conditions, it could already be registered as a truck at that time. A subtle facelift followed in 2003. The second generation has been available since 2008 and has since shared the platform with the compact Mégane and Scénic.
Also available with natural gas
The Kangoo is available with 43 kW / 59 PS and 78 kW / 106 PS petrol engines. It went on sale as a diesel version with a power range from 40 kW / 55 PS to 76 kW / 103 PS. In 2006 and 2007 a natural gas version was also sold.
According to the Schwacke list, Kangoo models are traded on the used market from around 1750 euros - for example the early version 1.2 Econ RN from 1998 with 43 kW / 59 PS. For a more powerfully motorized vehicle from 2003, around 4350 euros must be budgeted. A gasoline engine with a 1.6 liter 16V engine from 2008 with 78 kW / 106 hp is listed with prices between 10,000 and 11,300 euros. With around 12,850 euros you have to dig deeper into your pocket for the diesel version dCi 105 FAP Privilège (76 kW / 103 PS) from 2008. (dpa / tmn)
