With the new Ford Mondeo, the manufacturer's LED headlights are entering series production. They adapt completely flexibly to the respective traffic situation.
The new Ford Mondeo, which can now be ordered at an entry-level price of 27,150 euros, is the brand's first model to have front headlights with LED technology as an extra. The headlights have particularly bright light-emitting diodes that automatically adapt to the environment and driving situation. When the steering wheel is turned or the indicator is operated, the light cones automatically follow the direction. The headlights also automatically change their light distribution and headlight range depending on the speed.
At higher speeds they shine far forward, while at lower speeds they also illuminate the edges of the road. According to the manufacturer, manual switching from low beam to high beam is no longer necessary.
Headlights as the tip of the iceberg
Due to their small diameter, the individual LED elements can be arranged in almost any pattern. This enabled the developers to arrange special lighting effects - such as orange flashing lights that light up in a specific sequence and indicate the direction of the turn. Headlights are a bit like icebergs - you only see a small part of the whole thing on the surface, says chief designer Chris Hamilton. (AG)
