With the Urban Cruiser, Toyota was a pioneer in the now very successful mini SUV segment. Since the crossover flopped, the Japanese are now starting a new attempt.
Toyota wants to participate in the boom in mini crossovers with a small SUV. At the Paris Salon, the Japanese are showing the C-HR study, a near-series view of the model, which will be positioned below the RAV4 compact SUV.
Hybrid Toyota crossover
The manufacturer will not announce details until mid-September. However, it has already been announced that the study will have a hybrid drive. The competitor for Nissan Juke, Opel Mokka and Skoda Yeti could enter the market within the next two years.
There is a gap in the brand's model range before the new mini-SUV is launched. The Urban Cruiser mini all-wheel drive vehicle, which has been available in this class since 2009, has since been taken out of the range due to poor sales. Although the five-door was one of the pioneers in the now very successful segment, it was never able to convince with its high prices and unsightly interior. In 2013 there were just 93 customers in Germany. (SP-X)
