At the Geneva Motor Show in March, Honda unveiled its first electric car as a prototype. The Honda e can now be reserved for a fee. There are no prices yet.

“So far, the Honda e Prototype has received an overwhelming response from over 25,000 interested parties across Europe,” says Jean-Marc Streng, Honda Managing Director for the European Automobile Division. Customers in Germany, France, Great Britain and Norway can now secure an option for a refundable reservation fee via an online portal.

This means that the Honda e can be ordered during the course of the year. It is not known how high this fee will be. The first vehicles should not be delivered before spring 2020. The electric car will make its series debut in September at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.

More than 200 kilometers range

The first Stromer from Honda with a platform specially designed for electric drive should convince through efficiency and intuitive operation. The 3.92 meter short compact car with rear-wheel drive is intended for urban use and should enable a range of more than 200 kilometers. With the help of a quick charge function, the battery can be charged to 80 percent within 30 minutes.

Milestone in Honda's electric strategy

For the Japanese, the Honda e is a milestone in their electric strategy. This stipulates that all new vehicles sold in Europe will have an electrified drive by 2025. In addition to purely battery-electric vehicles, this also includes hybrid models such as the SUV CR-V Hybrid and the next generation of the small car Jazz. Both models have the so-called “intelligent Multi-Mode Drive” technology (i-MMD), which Honda also plans to use in other models.

Peugeot and Volkswagen had previously opened the order lists for their electric models e-208 and ID.3. There is also no price available for the French electric car, which will also be delivered in early 2020. The Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer, on the other hand, is offering the introductory edition ID.3 1st of its electric car for less than 40,000 euros. In the meantime, VW has already received more than 15,000 orders for which customers had to pay 1000 euros.
