The car manufacturer BMW is sending the i4 onto the market in 2021. The electric sedan will then offer a range of 600 kilometers - and compete with the Tesla 3.

The top-of-the-line version of the four-door coupé-like model is powered by a 530 hp electric motor that should accelerate the mid-range model to 100 km / h in around 4 seconds. The maximum speed is beyond 200 km / h.

The Munich manufacturer specifies a range of around 600 kilometers; the 80 kWh battery can be charged with up to 150 kilowatts. According to the manufacturer, the high-voltage battery in the BMW i4 can be reduced to around 80 percent in around 35 minutes. A range of 100 kilometers 100 kilometers can be achieved in six minutes. The electric drive components of the BMW i4, like the charging unit and the high-voltage battery, are developed in-house by BMW. In addition to the top model, a slimmed down version with less power and range should also be available. Prices are not yet known.

So far only camouflaged model of the i4

BMW has not yet shown what the i4 based on the 3 or 4 series will look like. The first pictures of the camouflaged model suggest a comparatively conventional design that is less futuristic than the IAA study “i Vision Dynamics” shown in 2017. Nevertheless, the i4 should not simply be a drive variant of the 4 Series Gran Coupé, but should be clearly recognizable as an electric car.

The i4 will be the third electric car from BMW in 2021 after the small car i3 and the iX3 expected in 2020. In the same year, the e-SUV iNext comes onto the market, possibly under the series name i5. Apart from the BMW i3, the car manufacturer currently has no other electric cars on offer. A total of at least 13 fully electric BMWs should be on the market by 2023. However, they have the largest selection of plug-in hybrids on offer. By 2025, there should be 25 electrified cars in the BMW range, along with the pure electric cars. (AG / SP-X)
