VW is now also offering the Sharan with a gas drive. According to the manufacturer, the additional price for the bivalent engine pays for itself after around 35,000 kilometers.

VW has expanded the range of engines for the Sharan and is now also allowing its MPV to be powered by gas. The new Sharan LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) uses liquefied petroleum gas, which is significantly cheaper than petrol in most European countries due to lower mineral oil tax rates.

From a technical point of view, the new one is a vehicle with a bivalent drive: the gas engine works in combination with an 85 kW Otto engine. The petrol tank of the Sharan LPG holds 70 liters. This enables the Wolfsburg van to cover another 730 kilometers when there is no gas filling station within reach.

Around 2400 euros extra

The price range for the Sharan LPG starts at 30,175 euros. The model with alternative drive is 2425 euros more expensive than the conventional gasoline engine with the same equipment. If you calculate with today's fuel prices, the investment pays for itself after around 35,000 kilometers, says Volkswagen. In addition, the Sharan LPG should be more environmentally friendly on the road than the equally powerful gasoline engine. According to the manufacturer, CO2 emissions are around 15 percent lower.
