It works. With its mini SUV C-HR, Toyota shows something that you rarely see in the Japanese: courage in design. Of course, the little brother of the RAV4 will also be available with a hybrid drive.

Toyota is daring something again when it comes to design. The new mini-SUV C-HR is now starting with a strikingly jagged body and is intended to attract younger customers. In addition to a conventional gasoline engine, there is also a hybrid drive as a contemporary additional argument. The little brother of the RAV4 will hit the market at the beginning of 2017 at prices starting at 21,990 euros.

The 4.36 meter long C-HR has a decidedly eye-catching design. The jagged front, the sloping roof towards the rear and the strongly contoured side surfaces would have been expected from the premium subsidiary Lexus. The cockpit with the asymmetrical central screen also sets unusually idiosyncratic accents for the brand.

116 hp in the basic version

The basic version of the mini-SUV has an 85 kW / 116 PS 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine that can be combined with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Alternatively, a hybrid drive is available. The combination of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and a 53 kW / 72 PS electric motor adds up to 100 kW / 122 PS. The manufacturer specifies the consumption of this variant as 3.8 liters, the price is 27,390 euros.

With both drive variants, the customer can choose between four equipment lines. The already quite comprehensive basic level “C-HR” offers, among other things, air conditioning, DAB radio, leather steering wheel and 17-inch alloy wheels. The interesting extras also include two-tone metallic paint, LED headlights and a JBL sound system. (SP-X)
