The Japanese car maker Mitsubishi will present the Eclipse Cross at the Geneva Motor Show. The SUV should be positioned between Outlander and ASX and compete with the VW Tiguan and the Ford Kuga.
Mitsubishi is launching a new SUV model this year that will position itself between the ASX and Outlander. The SUV will celebrate its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show (March 9-19, 2017). As with the Space Star a few years ago, the naming process will be recycled: The newcomer will be called Eclipse Cross, reviving the name of the Eclipse sports coupé, which was discontinued in 2012.
Coupe-like shape
Although the Eclipse Cross is an SUV that will compete against VW Tiguan, Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4, thanks to coupé-like design elements, the Japanese also see a certain connection to the sports car as a given. The deep red metallic paint is supposed to be reminiscent of the color of a total solar eclipse.
Otherwise Mitsubishi is still quite covered with facts. In addition to gasoline and diesel engines, a hybrid drive could also be offered for Mitsubishi's challengers. The new one should hit the German market in autumn 2017. (SP-X)
