A little more is always possible. Especially with the Audi TTS. It has 306 hp under the hood and goes up to 250 km / h. That is more than enough.
It could be even faster, but Audi adheres to the voluntary self-restraint with the TTS and its offshoots and switches the engine off when the 250 km / h is reached.

To honor the truth, the only two-liter four-cylinder turbo is even four hp weaker than it was before the facelift, but the engineers have increased the torque from 380 to 400 Newton meters, which at least leads to a measurable recovery leads: The car now sprints from zero to 100 in 4.5 instead of 4.6 seconds.
Nothing to feel of more dynamism
It would be a lie to say you noticed this on a test drive, but it feels good when the revisions around the middle of the model's life show slight improvements. Changes that can also be seen and experienced in the Audi TTS are the three-dimensional protective grille on the brand-typical single-frame grill, the new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (previously six gears) and the sports display in the virtual cockpit.
If the passenger feels uncomfortable when cornering quickly, he can now have this officially confirmed by looking at the steering wheel at an angle. Another digital instrument appears there, showing acceleration, deceleration and, of course, centrifugal forces. If the driver drives in such a way that these forces become noticeable, he himself will hardly have the opportunity to see what values they achieve, because he has to keep his eyes on the road.
Road briefly closed for test drives with Audi TTS
For example on the Snaefell Mountain Course. Here on the Isle of Man, the legendary Tourist Trophy is held once a year, which the NSU TT and Audi TT owe their names to. Although only motorcycles compete against the clock on the island in the Irish Sea (after all, NSU two-wheelers have already won here), the name still generally stands for sporty driving at the highest level - because the racetrack is not a racetrack, but consists of normal country and even city roads that are closed once a year.
For the TTS test, a short section of oncoming traffic had been cleared, and now it was possible to see what a compact sports car can do if you let it off the leash. Whereby you don't even have to have a guilty conscience on the island to speed down the country road at 150 kilometers an hour or more: There is no speed limit here outside of the cities.
In any case, the TTS cuts a remarkably good figure in this sports car paradise. Equipped as standard with all-wheel drive and one centimeter lower than the standard TT models, the top model with its 19-inch wheels maintains particularly good contact with the road. It is impressive how the TTS masters the opposing tasks of keeping in lane and of springing / damping when cornering really fast over a rather bumpy slope. Dangerous restlessness never gets into the car, the pleasantly smooth steering knows what it is doing and the tires almost stick to the ground. TTS driving can be an experience.
Attractive range of engines
The other renovated TT models were not available for a test drive, but of course they are more worth a look because they are simply more affordable. The basic TT, for example, comes as the TT 40 TFSI with a new 2.0-liter engine and 145 kW / 197 PS instead of 132 kW / 180 PS, as an expansion stage there will be a TT 45 TFSI with 180 KW / 245 PS instead of 169 kW / Give 230 hp. The 184 hp TDI ultra, which was available until recently, has been taken out of the range for the time being - firstly, a sports car doesn't really need a diesel engine, and secondly, they are also very happy at Audi, sometimes not with the diesel issue having to speak. On the other hand: The TDI has achieved around ten percent of sales - do you want to do without it in the long term?
The TT 45 TFSI forms the basis for the “20 Years” special model, which comes on the market in a limited edition of 999 pieces and is reminiscent of the introduction of the TT in 1998. The special model is primarily intended to create a visual similarity to the concept studies of the first TT, which is why it can only be ordered in two different shades of gray, and its leather seats are moccasin brown with clearly contrasting seams.
Just past a disaster
The historical truth of the milestone birthday also includes the fact that the TT made an almost false start at the time: after a few months, accidents in which the car had oversteered off the road increased, and there were even fatalities. It turned out that Audi had designed the suspension set-up very sharply, with a very narrow limit range, as much as possible like a "real" sports car. In an unprecedented recall campaign, not only were rear spoilers built on the cars, but any TT owner could also have the ESP system retrofitted for a deductible of 650 marks at the time.
It's hard to believe that a car, especially a sporty one, could have been delivered 20 years ago without ESP as standard. But it is actually the case that the development of electronic assistance systems was only just beginning in the 1990s. Today the TT is not only equipped with ESP, but you can also get countless other helpers, such as lane change and lane departure warning, parking aid with reversing camera and of course infotainment systems with voice control, smartphone integration and the operation of the navigation system via a touchpad that you can access with can draw letters with his finger.
Relatively moderate price
The more such systems are listed, the less the TT comes across as a puristic sports car. His customers never really saw it like this, but rather as an opportunity to explore new driving dynamics possibilities in an Audi and experience a special design - all at a reasonable price.
Even today, the entry level into the world of sports cars is still relatively low, the basic TT is available from 35,000 euros, as a roadster (with a soft top) it costs 2,500 euros more. For a car like the TTS you have to save a little more, of course: It costs 54,500 or 57,000 euros. (SP-X)
