The concept name Mission E has had its day. Porsche has given its first fully electric car the name Taycan with reference to its own logo.

Porsche is getting closer and closer to the electric age. As part of the “70 Years of Porsche Sports Cars” ceremony, the Porsche boss announced the name of the all-electric car that will come onto the market next year. The Mission E concept study becomes the Taycan.

“Our new electric athlete is strong and willing to perform; a vehicle that covers long distances and stands for freedom,”said Porsche boss Oliver Blume. The name, which comes from the oriental language area, means "lively, young horse". In keeping with the Porsche logo, which has been emblazoned with a jumping horse since 1952.

600 hp will propel the young horse. Two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) accelerate the electric athlete to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds. It takes less than twelve seconds for the needle to reach 200 km / h. The range is specified at over 500 kilometers - even after the soon-to-be-old NEDC cycle.

Traditionally at Porsche, the electrically powered sports cars will also receive several derivatives. The Cross Turismo is currently on a test drive. Porsche is investing six billion euros in electric mobility over the next four years.
