The Toyota Land Cruiser has replaced the Brabus-Mercedes-GLK as the fastest SUV in the world. The off-road vehicle converted into a speed cruiser set the previous best performance a lot higher.
SUVs and speeds beyond the 300 km / h mark are not automatically mutually exclusive - Toyota is now proving this with a modified Land Cruiser, aptly named "Land Speed Cruiser".
Under the hood of the SUV is the 5.7-liter V8 familiar from the production vehicle, which normally delivers 280 kW / 381 hp. Using two huge turbochargers, reinforced inners and a boost pressure of 3.8 bar, the power shoots to 1471 kW / 2000 PS. In addition, the Land Cruiser was lowered and provided with spoilers at the front and rear to make the vehicle more aerodynamically balanced.
Record on second attempt
Ultimately, it was all down to ex-Nascar racing driver Carl Edwards, who was supposed to bring the Land Speed Cruiser up to top speed at Mojave Air and Space Port in California. 339 km / h could be cracked, set up by a Brabus-Mercedes-GLK with biturbo V12.
The Toyota broke the 370.2 km / h mark in the second attempt - a new record. (SP-X)
